Deep Purpleが2006年7月に行ったライブが今回の更新ネタ。ハードロックの大御所、Deep Purpleが40周年を迎えたジャズ・フェスにヘッドライナーとして参加した時の映像です。日本放映用*1の映像なので音質・画質共に良好。「いうことなし！」と言いたい所―ですが、残念ながらセットリストが一部削除されています。Claude Nobsが彼らに依頼して新たに披露された曲*2がゴッソリ抜けています。あと、曲間のMCも削除されてます。代わりに日本のCMが一部含まれていますが、気にしたら負けです。
それ以外は、ほぼ往年の名曲ズラリといった形です*3。
さすがにVo.の衰えを感じない訳にはいかないものの、Don Aireyのキーボード演奏をメインに演奏されるJazz Inst版の"Smoke on the warter"がイントロに挿入されたTr.15"Smoke On The Water(Stars off with a Jazz ver.)"を初めとして巧みな演奏と彼らの即興性の高さに圧倒されます。Roger GloverのBassソロから始まる某缶コーヒーのCMソングTr.17"Black night"もカッコイイです。

According to Ian Gillan, as the band was to headline the 40th Montreux Jazz Festival.
Claude Nobs asked them to write a special song for it. The band was heavily touring at the time and a live jam was developed,which was announced on previous dates as 'Funky Chicken', 'Song for Claude' or some variations of the above. This track is missing from this broadcast. Also, Gillan's in-between songs chatter is edited out. Otherwise, it appears to be a complete set.
